Bechtel celebrates early construction completion of Western Sydney International Airport

B echtel, serving as Delivery Partner, has successfully managed the design and construction of the new Western Sydney International( Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport( WSI), delivering the megaproject almost seven months early and within its AU $ 5.3 billion( US $ 3.5 billion) budget on behalf of the Australian Government.

This key milestone positions WSI to commence passenger and cargo flights in late 2026, welcoming up to ten million passengers per year in its initial phase.

The project is Australia’ s first international, greenfield airport in over 50 years and has been a catalyst for economic development. The entire WSI project has created 11,650 annual full-time equivalent jobs, with over half coming from the local area. The hub will drive growth in Western Sydney’ s visitor economy and is projected to increase Australia’ s GDP by AU $ 23.9 billion by 2060.

Costain secures place on National Highways technical engineering advice framework in the UK

C ostain, the infrastructure solutions company, has been chosen as one of six suppliers by National Highways for its new Specialist Professional and Technical Services

Framework( SPaTS3).

Building on the foundations laid under the SPaTS2 framework, which Costain was previously selected for, the SPaTS3 Framework has an estimated maximum value of up to £ 495mn to the six suppliers over its six-year term and will cover the whole of Roads Investment Strategy 3( 2026 – 2031).

Working in close collaboration with the other suppliers and National Highways, Costain will support strategic objectives including the delivery of a road network which drives economic growth, improves safety and reliability, and furthers the UK’ s decarbonisation goals.
Costain and its extended supply chain will provide a range of specialist technical engineering advice services to National Highways, including engineering, electric vehicle infrastructure, health, safety and the environment. Its team of experts will draw on Costain’ s previous framework experience and capabilities as a leader in providing predictable, best-in-class solutions to enhance the UK’ s critical infrastructure.
