Following the upheaval of a global pandemic and the related supply chain disruption , the future is certainly looking more promising for the construction industry . However , there remains several challenges to address , including escalating energy and raw material costs , alongside the urgent need to decarbonise the built environment in accordance with climate change targets .

As the UK government pushes forward its plans to reach carbon net zero , we have witnessed a positive upward trend of EV purchases . However , there are concerns about whether the country ’ s infrastructure is prepared for the shift in electricity use .

When considering architectural design for hospice buildings , emotional design is crucial , as putting patients , families and the people caring for them at the heart of design is essential and never more important than in the case of young adults . This month , our Clocking Out feature considers four key pillars when thinking about the future of hospice design for young people on page 67 .
